Some people are always ready to try out new/different things. That's one thing I cannot do with ease. Few things I can never imagine myself trying, few others I will eventually but with lot of conscious effort. Before I digress too much from the actual intention of writing this post, let me begin - First with a little intro and then with the actual INCIDENT .. :D

INTRO - This is about an incident related to a friend ..

A very good friend of mine is always eager to try new things. Be it at a restaurant or anywhere, she would pick something she has never heard of. In short, she likes trying out new things. This is one thing, I never ever do. I don't like taking chances when I am very hungry (most of the times I am :D). I almost always know what to pick unless it is a new cuisine all together(something which has chicken in it for the main course and something with chocolate for deSSert :)). Now, another thing about her, she always tries to be the first to complete things. Not out of competition or anything, she can't just wait to finish up things and start something new and finish it up and this circle goes on forever. I greatly admire this quality of hers.

INCIDENT -

Now, let me talk about an incident which resulted directly because of these two traits of her :D

She ended up trying an anti-aging cream in her 20's!!!! She tried something new and way tooooooooooo ahead :D

Result => Swollen face, Swollen eyes .. She had to rush to the doctor and get a shot :))))

She ended up telling everyone that it was because of some food poisoning due to frozen aloo paratha or something :). Liar, big Liar!! This happened few months back and she is very much fine now, so I thought I can safely write about it :D. But I know, I will be beaten up badly next time I get to meet her :(.

I have few pictures related to the incident, will be posted on DEMAND. But, name of the person will not be revealed :D.

World War I (1914 - 1918)

World War I was the first global war but was mainly fought in the Europe. Series of events resulted in the war and forced many countries to join the war on behalf of their allies.

It is believed that the first act that triggered the war was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir of Austro-Hungarian throne, on June 28th 1914. Now into the details -

Bosnia-Herzigovina region was under Austria-Hungarian rule. But, majority of people who lived in that area were Serb's and they were unhappy with the Austria-Hungarian rule. They wanted to unite with Serbia. So, they were attracted to Black Hand - a terrorist organization based in Serbia which claimed "Unification of all Serbs" as its main objective.

Franz Ferdinand was invited to Sarajevo, Bosnia by general Oskar Potiorek, governor of the Austro-hungarian province in Bosnia-Herzigovina, to watch his troops. Though Franz Ferdinand knew it was dangerous to travel, he decided to visit Sarajevo in June 1914. Dragutin Dimitrijevic, Milan Ciganovic, Voja Tankosic of Black Hand plotted to assassin him during this visit. They employed suicide bomber's to commit the deed. Three people who were then suffering from TB decide to join hands with Black hand and commit the crime - kill Franz Ferdinand and commit suicide, for what they believed to be a great cause - to free Bosnia from Austro-Hungarian rule. On the day of the visit, they succeeded in their motive of killing Franz Ferdinand. However, they get caught by the police before they could commit suicide. In the interrogation that followed, they revealed the names of Black Hand team who were responsible for the plot.

Austria-Hungarian government demanded Serbia to hand over the three men of Black Hand responsible for the act. Serbia denies that saying it was against the law. As a result of which, Austro-Hungarian government declared war on Serbia.

Word War I .. World War II

World War I and World War II - The two great war's in the history of the world. Although, the History part of Social at school was all about these two wars for one whole year(was it two?), I don't remember anything about them. Now that I have all the time, I thought I should probably read about them. For now, I will find the information on the net. If it goes well and if I get further interested, I will probably move to books. So the idea is to read in parts everyday and update my blog on what I read about these wars. I will start with World War I. Lets see how this goes :).

Btw, I am not fascinated by the war's or anything. I just want to know how so many people(millions .. don't know how many) could involve themselves in these deadliest wars. I understand that most of them had no choice. But, how did it all happen? How could there be a second one? How could they not learn from the first one? Well, I don't know if these questions have answers to them. Because, even now we haven't learned. I think its just part of the human nature - to fight; though it would result in more destruction than any ultimate good. Whatever, I just want to learn the reasons for these war's, the major players and how it has changed the world. Obviously, it won't be of any practical importance to me. But, I am sure it will be interesting to read about them.

As its already too late now .. I will post the first one tomorrow :).

Hershey's .. mmmm ..

I, along with my parents, recently visited Hershey, the home of the world famous Hershey Chocolate factories. I consider myself a CHOCOHOLIC and I love Chocolate in any form. Hershey's chocolate bar, kisses have always been on the top of my favorite chocolate's list. However, its only after this visit to the Chocolate world, I felt much happier about every Hershey's Chocolate I ever had.

Hershey's chocolate world is about 80 miles from the place where I live. It took us about 1 and half hours to get there. It was a pleasant day and the place was filled with cocoa aroma :) . We started off with the 3D show featured on the Hershey chocolates. I almost held my hands out, as did a 3 year old kid who was sitting right next to me, when the 3D show gave an illusion of chocolate shower all around the place. It was a wonderful show and I enjoyed every bit of it.

After the show, we chose to take the one hour Trolley Ride around the Hershey township. It was a beautiful place and the Hershey Kiss shaped street lights attracted everybody's attention. The guide in the Trolley showed us different places(Hershey's Mansion which now hosts the Hershey trust offices, Chocolate factories, Hershey schools etc). He narrated the life story of Milton S. Hershey, the founder of the Hershey chocolate companies. I was amazed by listening to the facts about Hershey.

This was what was told by the guide and to the best of what I remember --

Hershey, in his early adulthood, faced a life of hardship. He only received minimal education and started his career as a candy maker. His several attempts at starting a company for candy making were unsuccessful. With a lot of effort, he managed to build the caramel candy manufacturing company close to his birthplace, which was later named after him as Hershey town. He got interested in the art of chocolate making, which was only known to Swiss in those days. After trial and error, he arrived at the formula for making the best milk chocolate. He started Hershey Chocolate company which made Milk Chocolate bars, a luxury which only a few enjoyed in those days, that everyone could afford. Along with the development of Hershey Chocolate companies, the area, the Hershey town started developing. He provided his employees with houses, health care centers, recreational centers etc.

All the profits on the Hershey Chocolates, apart from those used to maintain and develop the Hershey chocolate factories and other Hershey attractions, go to the Hershey Trust that maintains the Hershey school for less privileged kids. The school has all the facilities that any private school would have. It is totally maintained by the trust without any help from the government.

Isn't it really amazing? He started a school that would help less privileged students and provided jobs to many people for years to come. He not only developed the place but also provided a means for it to continue to develop and maintain itself.

Another fact that guide pointed to us was that the formula for Hershey chocolate bar has never been changed. There are many companies out there which start off by making good stuff but eventually tend to compromise on quality.

The trolley ride came to an end and the guide gave Hershey chocolate bar to each one of us. :)

We then took a quick tour of a miniature chocolate factory where we got to know how chocolates are exactly made. After buying whole lots of chocolates we started back from the place. It was a short but sweet trip.

Atlast, I bought my first digital camera a week back. I had postponned buying one for a long time. I used to take pics/videos with my dad's camera/handycam at almost every family gathering. I used to be one of the official photographers at all the outings during btech(Back in good old btech day's, Nandhini used to hand over her Analog camera and extra rolls to me and forget all about her camera when I was around :D. These days she is no longer nice to me; she gave me only limited access to her digital camera during the Canyon trip .. else I would have taken a good 4 digit number of pics :D ). On several occasions in the recent past, many of my friends and cousins were surprised to know that I did'nt own a camera of my own. They know how much I love taking pictures. The reason for not buying one all this while is also the same("Prevention is better than cure" -- a friend correctly pointed out when I told the reason for not buying one). I think its one kind of obsession(may be too strong a term) that I posess among many others I refuse to accept. :) ..
Lets talk about camera's now.

I always wanted to buy a Black color camera but I ended up buying a silver color one. Black was not available in the model I wanted on the day I wanted to buy it. I did'nt want to miss the pictures I could take at cousins wedding the next day. So had to compromise with the color.

A few things I learned about few sony camera's in the process of buying one.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 .. thats the one I bought .. its 7.2MP .. 3X optical zoom .. very good camera .. cost is about 190$ .. I got for 189$ in sears .. it was sold out in circuit city for 179$ and 169$ in Best Buy ..

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W90 .. comes in black color .. looks pretty good .. but comes at an additional cost of about 40$(costs about 230$) with no additional features .. expect that it is 8.1MP .. I learned that you would not find any difference between 7.2MP and 8.1MP unless you go for large size prints .. (I almost bought this one just for the color .. but later decided not to .. :)) ..

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100 .. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T200 .. overly prized .. 5X optical zoom is the only thing that attracted me to these camera's .. and yeah they look pretty good also .. it has a big LCD display with touch screen controls .. the sales person in the circuit city rightly pointed out the negative point about this camera .. there is no view finder .. you can only look at the LCD while taking pics .. this would make your job very difficult on a sunny day .. you will not be able to see anything ..

Blogging is not easy .. at least for people like me ..

First thing, I don't know what to write. I do get a few ideas sometimes. Then, the flow of thoughts doesn't seem to be right. I hit the backspace key as many times as I hit any other key. Its not always with the flow, sometimes I just can't think of correct words/ways to express thoughts. Other times, its the fear(not exactly fear fear, again an example of lack of words) of conveying something wrong(that I don't actually intend to)that stops me from writing.

But, I decided(not a very strong decision though!! :D) to write something from now on. Although this blog is older than an year now, I still consider it to be new(due to lack of activity/posts) and re-iterate "First Blog .. Lets c what it turns out to be .. " .. :)

Hello .. This is my first blog ever so I am sure it is going to be Random and might cause Boredom .. Interesting thing is that it is born out of boredom .. :) ..

These days I am really getting very very bored .. nothing much to do .. one month and 15 days left for the coursework to resume .. not many people around and somehow don't feel like talking much on the phone or chatting or orkutting .. just killing time on the net(playing, reading Indian newspapers and general googling and ofcourse reading random articles on wikipidea .. this has turned out be my favourite pass time .. jst click on the Random Article link on wikipidea and you will get to read something new .. I find it quiet useful because you Randomly get to read Random articles to kill time Randomly because sometimes,I feel, Randomness can break the monotonously routine life ..

I feel like ending this blog here .. I will definetly try to write something interesting from my next blog .. I should improve my writing skills as well .. :) .. last thing .. selecting this pic for this blog also was Random .. but that pic was not taken randomly .. it was taken by me in a zoo here .. there are many pictures of this bird from different angles .. I like these two pics because in the first picture you can't estimate the size of its beak and the second pic here gives you an idea .. ;) ..
